Tagros Chemicals India Ltd is a part of the Chennai-based Jhaver Group and is engaged in the manufacture and marketing of agro and non-agro chemicals. TCIL is fully-owned by members and companies belonging to the Jhaver Group; and its operations are headed by Mr. Parikshith Jhaver, who belongs to the promoter family. The company’s product portfolio mainly comprises the methrin family of pesticides, which are synthetic pyrethroids. TCIL was incorporated in 1992 to take over the operations of a sick unit called Thinkfield in the SIPCOT Industrial Estate, Cuddalore (Tamil Nadu). The company started its operations with the production of veterinary bulk drugs and entered into the manufacture of D V Acid Chloride in 1993-94.

Subsequently, the company added to its portfolio various methrin products like Alphacypermethrin (AMT), cypermethrin (CMT), Pemethrin (PMT) and Deltamethrin (DMT), which are used in manufacture of insecticides; technicals like hexaconazole and propiconazole, which are used in fungicides; and some formulations of these technicals and by-products.

Over the years, TCIL built its strong market position in methrins, which contribute to 72% of its turnover. The company is primarily focussed on the export market, with presence in more than 70 countries and export revenues constituting almost 85% of the turnover in FY 2008. The company’s current production capacities at 1020 MTPA of DV Acid Chloride (the intermediate product) and 1200 MTPA of methrin products are proposed to be increased to 1800 MTPA and 2220 MTPA.

As of July 2017, the company is planning to expand its Dahej plant with an investment of Rs. 173 million.
