Fertilizer Corp of India plans 1.27 mtpa urea plant in Gorakhpur

Fertilizer Corp of India is planning to set up a 1.27 MTPA natural gas-based urea plant in Gorakpur in Uttar Pradesh. The company has appointed Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu India as the financial advisor for the project. The company has invited Request for Qualification (RFQ) for selection of investor for setting up the project at the Gorakhpur unit of FCIL in August 2015.

The Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers, has authorized FCIL for revival of the Gorakhpur Unit by selecting a suitable investor to setup, design, finance, construct, establish, operate and maintain the project for a term of 33 years which may further be renewed. The total land area of 993.81 acres is available with FCIL.

The estimated investment size is Rs. 60 billion. The Government has earmarked 2.4 MMSCMD of domestic natural gas for the project from Daman Field of Oil and Natural Gas Corporation, which is expected to commence production from September 2016. The natural gas is proposed to be transported through the upcoming Jagdishpur-Phulpur-Haldia pipeline to be constructed by GAIL (India).

In August 2015, the government of India has entrusted FCI to revive the plant and the company has appointed Deloite Touche Tohmatsu India as an advisor for the project. The company has invited RFQ bids and the successful bidder will setup, design, finance, construct, establish, operate and maintain a gas based 1.27 million tonnes urea plant for a term of 33 years. FCIL will assist the selected bidder in obtaining all government clearances required for the project. The natural gas for the project is proposed to be transported through the upcoming Jagdishpur-Phulpur-Haldia pipeline to be constructed by GAIL India
